In The Line Of Fire

As you may or may not know, Freedom800.com is based in Southern California.  The fires that raged across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego counties have devastated Southern California.  To say that hundreds of thousands of lives and livelihoods were greatly affected would be an understatement.  While those of us that live in Southern California were of course concerned about what was happening, many of our customers all over North America were concerned as well.  Those customers that are aware that we are in Southern California voiced some concern about what might happen to their service during the state of emergency that we found ourselves in. 

Even though the staff was evacuated and not allowed to return for two days due to the fires, the integrity of the service was unaffected by the disaster.  I felt that this would be a good time to visit the security measures that we have in place to ensure the reliability of your service with us.

  • Our servers are maintained in a secure co-location facility that is manned 24 hours a day by security personnel.  Access to the servers is by fingerprint identification as well as keypad pincode.
  • The servers are housed in a climate controlled environment.  In case of fire, a state of the art fire suppression system extinguishes the fire in less than 10 seconds using a clean, odorless gas that will not harm sensitive equipment.  Standard fire systems that use water, foams, or chemicals can be just as damaging to equipment as the fire itself.
  • An uninterruptable power supply is in place so that in times of power outages the servers run on battery back up and then if necessary diesel generator.
  • The entire building is made of reinforced steel and several feet of concrete thick enough to withstand the impact of a small aircraft.
  • We use 5 underlying data carriers so that if there are problems with one, or even 4, we can still deliver your service without interruption.
  • We have redundant systems in place for all critical servers so that if for some reason there is a problem with one, the redundant system can be used.  We can do this remotely and within seconds of the primary server experiencing problems.

We have taken all of the above steps, and others that I cannot divulge without giving away trade secrets, because we take the reliability and quality of our service to you very seriously.  So seriously in fact, that even a firestorm could not stand in our way.
