Google Protects Adsense with Telephone Verification

Google will accept new applications to it’s popular Adsense program only if applicants provide a valid phone number. New Adsense applications will not be accepted if a phone number is not provided. Google then verifies the phone number automatically.

Why do applicants need to verify their phone number with Google? According to Google, “as part of our effort to protect the accounts of AdSense publishers and provide account-specific support, a valid phone number is required for publishers. We use automatic telephone number verification to ensure that your information is accurate and up-to-date”.

Here is how it works.

Upon completion of an Adsense application, Google sends a phone verification PIN number to an applicant’s email address. They are instructed to click the link provided in the email to open the Phone Verification Setup page, from which they’re able to initiate the call or set a convenient time for the system to call them in order to verify the telephone number of the applicant.

Applicants will need to key in a 6-digit personal identification number (PIN) using their touch-tone telephone. Google gives a limited number of PIN entry attempts.

This Phone verification PIN is different from the Address verification PIN that is mailed to each AdSense publisher when earnings have reached $50 on their account. The Address PIN is also used to verify publisher contact address and is sent by snail mail.
